By reviewing the items by yourself you only get one perspective. Working together not only gives you a additional perspectives, but it also provides an environment where new (hybrid) perspectives can be developed. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

More specifically - "tags" provide a way for folks working independently to pool their resources (work). For example, students doing a research assignment use Del.icio.us to tag their resources. In the end, the class has developed a pool of resources that can be used by future classes or by other classes around the world.
